It is recommended that your blood should be slightly alkaline with a pH rating of 7.35 to 7.45. If your blood is either above or below this range it could mean either disease or other poor health symptoms. A pH rating of 7.0 is completely neutral. A pH rating that is above 7.0 is alkaline. A pH rating that is below 7.0 is acidic.
There are many reasons why a person could have an acidic pH rating. It could be because of emotional stress, an acid forming diet, a toxic over-load, reactions of your immune system, or any other body process that denies your cells from receiving proper oxygen or nutrients.
An acidic pH level in your body will cause your body to compensate by using alkaline minerals. People who do not eat enough alkaline foods may not have enough minerals for the body to compensate. When this occurs there will be a build-up of harmful acids in your cells.
People who have an acidic pH level can suffer from a decrease in energy production within the cells, a decrease in their body’s natural ability to absorb nutrients and minerals, a decrease in the body’s ability to repair any damaged cells, a decrease in the body’s ability to detoxify heavy metals, an environment where tumor cells thrive, and additional illnesses or fatigue.
Obviously, these are all serious conditions that we should try to avoid. In fact, if you had a blood pH level of 6.9 it could cause coma and death. A 6.9 pH level is only slightly acidic. Unfortunately, the American diet is extremely high in acidic producing animal products such as eggs, meat, and dairy while at the same time being extremely low in alkaline producing fresh fruits and vegetables.
An American diet is also primarily acidic because of processed foods such as white sugar and flour, coffee, and carbonated soda drinks. North Americans also consume too many drugs which are primarily acidic. They are also consuming acid forming poisons such as aspartame, NutraSweet, Equal, and other artificial chemical sweeteners.
To improve our overly acidic bodies we need to change both our diet and lifestyle. A healthy diet should consist of 40 percent acid forming foods and 60 percent alkaline forming foods. To restore your body from an acidic level you may need to begin by eating 80 percent alkaline forming foods and only 20 percent acid forming foods.
Acid forming foods include things such as fish, meat, poultry, grains, eggs, and legumes. Alkaline forming foods include things such as green vegetables, most fruits, beans, lentils, herbs, spices, seeds, nuts, and seasonings.
To begin this change you can go online and download the alkaline food chart. The alkaline food chart is a list of foods with their pH rating. The pH rating is based on a particular food after it has been digested. Use this chart to preplan your weekly diet so that you can consume a good balance of acidic foods and alkaline foods. Eating properly will eliminate poor digestion, extra pounds, low energy, aches and pains, and disease.
